Guitar Hero b-day
March 26, 2007, 11:11 pmSaturday’s Guitar Hero night was a success - and despite asking them not to, people brought me presents. Nice presents. Special presents. And I felt very lucky. Plus, there was much Guitar Hero rocking! Thanks to everyone who made it out and to those who didn’t, there’s talk of a semi-regular, non-birthday Guitar Hero night, so stay tuned.
Big thanks to Taylor and Duncan for the pics.

And knowing is half the battle
March 20, 2007, 3:14 pm
There’s a new magazine popping up in the UK called Cereal:Geek (not to be confused with plain old Geek magazine, which is also worth noting) that will come out quarterly - 100 pages, no ads - and focus on those wonderful, wasted Saturday mornings of youth. Specifically the 80s. Boomers and Gen-Y need not apply.
Dubious at first, I’ve now shelled out for the first issue - the sample pages I’ve seen feature brilliant articles and features, such as tearing apart a single episode of The Real Ghostbusters, scene by scene, because it was made using many different overseas animation studios. Or taking a cartoon episode and coming up with a cover for it, if it were a comic. Not to mention a lot of fantastic art - I mean really, what are the chances we’re going to see new M.A.S.K. art anywhere else?
And then there’s the attention-grabbing cover, featuring a post-duke-it-out She-Ra, putting the “pow!” back in Princess of Power. Maybe they couldn’t show us blood and bruises on Saturday morning, but it was always there.

Taco pasta - success!
March 19, 2007, 4:32 pmA month back, I worked far later than I’d planned and returned home later than any grocery store could accomodate me - not interested in any 7-11 or late-night burger fare, I just wanted a quick bite to stop the grumbling and off to bed. The trouble being that my fridge was empty and the cupboards were bare of anything meal like. In a desperate, bachelor move, I opted for spaghetti with a little olive oil and the remainder of a packet of taco seasoning (I never use a whole one, as it always seems too much to me.)
The results weren’t impressive, but interesting, and suited my tummy well enough. So, I began thinking; I’m not a big fan of taco shells, but I do occassionally get a hankering for tacos. So, who says you can’t swap out the shells and replace it with some other filling carb, like, say, pasta? The answer? Nobody.
Last night Maria and I boiled up some pasta (we agreed that linguini or spaghetti would work best over any of the smaller kind), made up some ground beef (with burrito seasoning, which is practically the same), chopped up ample romaine tomatoes (four) to compensate for the loss of the lettuce, and shredded some cheese. Add sour cream to taste and the results were nice - better yet, the meal wouldn’t be bad slightly cooler, during hot summer days.
So, much like the orange or strawberries in cola, I declare taco pasta a success!

On the cover of the Rolling Stone… I mean, on the CBC.
March 13, 2007, 4:48 pmA quick note that many many cool people I know will be on the CBC this week.
First up is The Western Investor - after Band of the Day, being featured on the CBC R3 podcast, and climbing the R3-30 charts, they have been invited to chat with CBC 3. So, if you have Sirrius radio, tune in to Channel 94 at noon PST tomorrow (Wednesday - that’s as specific as I can get.)
More chances to listen in forthcoming - hopefully soon.
And THEN, this Friday, BC artist Chris Woods will be on the CBC Radio One program ‘Sounds Like Canada’ at 10:00am. You can tune your radio to Radio One or check out the show online here.

And if you’re not already friends with them, do so.
