My Earth colours - let me show you them.
November 22, 2007, 12:38 pmThe European Space Agency has released some sweet pictures of the Earth and Moon, as they would be seen by the nekkid eye. And the result is… boring. Or rather, the Earth is really, really, really dark blue. A lot. For those of you who can’t be bothered with all those images, if you took the Earth picture and smooshed it down to a single pixel, the single colour result would be #494F74 (a sombre, greyish purple.)

More taser fun
November 15, 2007, 1:19 pmAfter all the recent fun abuses of tasers by law enforcement, and the most recent not-fun use at the Vancouver International Airport that left a man dead, here’s another article that just goes to show that police think tasers are magic.
The short version is that man is at bus depot, on his way to meet friends - man has medical condition, and goes into diabetic shock, passes out. Police are called because there’s a man slumped over holding a backpack. Anti-Terror police are sent and told to contain the area - instead, they shoot him with a taser.
Here are my thoughts;
1) Tasers and electronics - say bombs - don’t mix. So, shooting the unresponsive man is dumb.
2) Tasers have a range well inside a blast radius, making their use doubly dumb.
3) What happened to the little bomb robots? Couldn’t one of them have wandered over and pulled his rucksack? And if it blows, hey - that’s what the robot’s for and it certainly proves the guy was guilty.
At what point did they pass on long poking poles, throwing rocks, shouting really loudly, pellet guns, and guys in bomb protection padding, and skip right to taser?
Taser does not equal magic. As it stands, the police involved will not face criminal charges, presumably because it’s not a crime to be dumb. They may still face disciplinary proceedings, because there is some small shread of hope that it’s still wrong to be a dick with a taser.
